Accra, Nov. 26, GNA - Mrs Akosua Adu, Greater Accra
Regional Director of Education on Saturday advised
Ghanaians to change their attitude towards the study
of French language.
Speaking at the second graduation ceremony of the
Centre of Language and Professional Studies (CELPS)
in Accra, Mrs Adu said, "Ghanaians should consider
French as equally important as English".
She said for Ghanaians to be an integral part of the
process towards integration in Africa, they should
strive towards understanding of the French language
so as to facilitate communication.
The commitment shown by francophone students towards
the study of English language should be emulated by
Ghanaians towards the study of French.
She advised the grandaunts not to abandon what they
had learnt since that could serve as an important
tool towards Africa's integration.
Mr Iddrisu Mumuni Dimbie, the Director of Centre
said the establishment of the school was in line
with the ideas of the founding fathers of the
African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of
West African States (ECOWAS). Mr Dimbie said the
school has succeeded in bringing Africans from
different countries together who saw themselves as
one people.
He said the Centre was leading the way towards
Africa's integration by the interactions that went
on among the students and the people of Ghana.
Mr Dimbie appealed to the Ghana Education Trust Fund
to come to the aid of the school to improve its
infrastructure development.
Seventy-four students graduated from the school and
were awarded with certificates in English, French,
Spanish and Arabic.
The Centre of Language and Professional Studies (CELPS)
was established in 1991 by Mr Iddrisu Mumuni Dimbie
with one student at Kotobabi in Accra.
Currently, the school has a population of 800
students from countries such as Togo, Niger, Burkina
Faso, Guinea, Cameroon, Gabon, Benin, Chad and D.R
Congo.
