Nduom Concedes Defeat
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot
Accra, Dec 8, Ghanadot - The failed presidential
hopeful of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Dr. Papa
Kwesi Nduom, has conceded defeat in the 2008 elections. With
less than half of the total votes collated, Dr Nduom has
realized that his prospects of annexing the presidency are
perilously dim.
At a press briefing in Accra, he said although the CPP
promised to build a just society by fighting corruption
dynamically, the people of Ghana had spoken and that to him
is a big step for the nation’s development.
To Dr. Ndoum, Ghanaians have “have spoken loud and clear and
in any way they have told the world that they want change,”
and that he will respect.
Dr. Nduom appreciated the Ghanaians and all party faithful
who supported him during the time of his campaign, he added
that though all was not well with the party, Ghanaians who
believed in his call, came out in their numbers to support
efforts.
“I appreciate the enthusiastic effort of an army of young
men and women who believed that Ghana deserves better, I
also appreciate the ordinary men and women who worked to
support our campaign”.
The failed presidential hopeful proudly noted that his party
has done well with in this year’s election, adding that the
CPP has not involved itself in any negative campaigning
through out their campaign, but their campaign has been one
on how to improve the living standard of the ordinary
Ghanaian.
He said the party hoped to have performed dramatically well
in the Greater Accra and the Central region, but
unfortunately for them, those they relied on to make that
dream come true have disappointed them and voted for the
other parties.
Dr. Nduom acknowledged the ability of the NPP and the NDC to
put together “human and material resources and for having
the determination to win” the confidence of Ghanaians.
The outgoing MP for KEEA, however, cautioned the two parties
to “treat the trust of our people with respect so that we
avoid violence and chaos in our society”. He therefore
congratulated the other smaller parties for working hard to
give Ghanaians an alternative.
He commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for maintaining
its credibility. Dr. Nduom also gave a hint of his desire to
stay in politics, adding that “there is a lot ahead of me in
politic”.
The CPP presidential hopeful promised whoever wins that the
CPP will still stand by Ghanaians to ensure that the
interest of the Ghanaian is met.
