Kyerematen campaign for NPP flag
bearership commences
Accra, Sept. 24, Ghanadot - Amidst hundreds of
placard-bearing supporters on foot and in vehicles, Mr Alan
Kyerematen, aspiring flag bearer of the ruling New Patriotic
Party (NPP), on Monday launched his campaign for party
nomination as candidate for presidential elections 2008.

An elated Mr Kyerematen declared to his supporters later at
a rally same day that the party needed a strong leader who
would not only attract support from the NPP but from the
other parties as well, including the NDC.
He urged them to vote for him as
the only candidate who was certain to lead the party to
victory in 2008.
Present to provide support was

Patricia, a large number of party
activists from all the 230 constituencies of the NPP, and
notable political personalities like Mr Stephen
Ntim, a leading member of the NPP and Ms Frances Esiam,
former National Women's Organizer of the National Democratic
Congress (NDC) who had defected to join the Democratic Freedom
Party (DFP).
"Vote for Alan Cash to create
jobs and put money in people's pocket; I have the
experience, capabilities and capacity to create wealth in
the country," he said.
Mr. Kyerematen outlined four priority areas that a
government led by him would focus on; Industrialization,
Infrastructural Development; Information Communication and
Technology Advancement and Promotion of Tourism.
Mr. Kyerematen, who is the former Minister of Trade,
Industry and President's Special Initiative (PSI), tasked
delegates to the New Patriotic Party's National Delegates'
Congress about to take place on December 22 to select a
candidate based on 10 cardinal principles.
These would include: a candidate who would not only be
marketable within the NPP, but one who would have a
nationwide appeal, and a person with strong capacity to build
upon the solid foundations laid by President John Agyekum
Kufuor in the areas of health, education, road development
and public transportation.
Other considerations, Mr. Keyrematen said, should
include "a personality with a new face to project the new
image of the party for Elections 2008; continuity in the
development process from the Castle in 2009 and beyond, and
a focus on an aspirant with international experience and
exposure" since the President of Ghana did not just operate
in Ghana alone but was impacted by events from everywhere
else.
"Elections 2008 is a Champion of Championship game, which
requires candidates with international exposure," he noted.
Mr. Kyerematen said as an NPP Presidential candidate who
served in various capacities under the Kufuor
administration, he had also gained the local experience
needed for the high office and that he had achieved a track
record of accomplishment that would attest for his claim for
the leadership position.
And to the stalwarts of the
Danquah-Busia tradition he said, he was the "one who can
demonstrate commitment and dedication towards the cause of
the Danquah-Busia tradition" and more.
He said the party also needed a flag bearer with the
capacity to unify the party after the pending December 2007
congress and, additionally, the ability to draw
the sympathy vote from those who thirst for true democracy
for Ghana.
Mr Kyerematen explained that Elections 2008 would be a third
term consecutive bid for political power by his party and
that that experience by itself presented some difficulties.
"We therefore need a new marketable face to break the third
term debacle of ruling parties...NPP would win the next
elections to set a political record in the country."
He tasked the delegates to monitor the campaign messages of
other aspirants saying, "their messages would demonstrate
the type of leadership qualities they possess".
Mr. Kyerematen appealed to the
crowd to note the high significance of the next elections.
He said a man with fresh, dynamic ideas to move the nation
forward to the next level of development would be needed.
He offered himself to the jubilant, almost carnival like
crowd as their man to lead the NPP to victory.
