Inter-Schools and Colleges festival focus of Sports Minister
designate
Accra, Feb. 6, Ghanadot/GNA -
Sports Minister designate, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak is
relishing an early inter- Schools and Colleges Sports
competition that would begin from the primary level to
unearth talents at tender ages and thirst to make this a
reality when confirmed as the sector head.
Alhaji Mubarak who is slated for vetting on Thursday,
February 12 told GNA Sports “I believe one of the best ways
of having continuity in sports is to provide a platform from
the primary level and create a channel that ensures the
trend travels to the tertiary institutions in a bid to
holistically develop sports.”
The 37-year old President’s nominee said introducing the
festival at that level would similarly help in nurturing and
monitoring talent instead of the usual break that occurs
after Senior High School education.
Alhaji Mubarak also dreams of working for a ministerial
collaboration with the Ministry of Education to ensure that
sports become an integral part of the curricula of tertiary
education for the sake of continuity.
“It is in our interest to ensure that we do not discourage
talented people to depart from sports because there are no
provisions for their cause and rather leave sports for the
uneducated when indeed both education and sports can
perfectly co-exist.
“Through that we can similarly erase the erroneous
impression that sports is for drop-outs and failures.”
Alhaji Mubarak also believes in the provision of
infrastructure nationwide to support the growth of sports
from all angles.
