Black Stars would not underrate any team — Appiah

Kumasi, March 27, Ghanadot/GNA – Stephen Appiah, Skipper of the senior national team, the Black Stars is upbeat about the chances of the qualification of the Stars for the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The players, he said were well focused and would not disappoint.

“It is a privilege for any country to participate in the quadrennial championship and we are therefore determined to take all our matches seriously to ensure our qualification”, he stated.

Speaking to the GNA Sports in Kumasi on Thursday, the Black Stars skipper pointed out that for now it was too early to choose a particular team as the favourites to qualify for the championship.

“Even though we are in group “D” with the likes of Sudan, Benin and Mali, we will not underrate any of them”, he stressed.

On his fitness and future career plans, Appiah said he has been declared fit for the Stars encounter with the Squirrels of Benin at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday, adding that with all things being equal, he was anticipating a better contract in Europe.

The Black Stars Skipper called on Ghanaians to rally solidly behind the team to ensure their qualification to the World Cup.
