Volta Region inaugurates Sports Council members

Ho, July 27, Ghanadot/GNA - A seven-member Volta Regional Sports Council has been inaugurated Mr Joseph Amenowode, the Regional Minister on Monday with a call on members to help regain the Region’s lost glory in sports.


The Council has the Regional Minister as Chairman with Mr Felix Aperkortsu, representative of the Ghana Education Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police, (ASP) Seth Kukubor, representing the Ghana Police Service and a representative from the Regional House of Chiefs.


The others are Mr Sylvanus Plahar, representing the Municipal Assembly, Mr Gabriel Yao Missodey, Regional Sports Development Officer and Mrs Patience Buami representing the Tertiary Education Sector.


Mr Amenowode tasked the Council to ensure that they unite the Clubs in the Region to come out with a formidable team to play in the premiership as well as develop lesser known sports and general improvement of sports in the Region.
“I hope with such initiatives the Region ca reclaim and revive her past glorious sporting days and exploits”, Mr Amenowode added.


The Regional Minister underscored the importance of sports in the socio-economic development of every nation, saying it serves as a source of employment, tourist attraction and foreign exchange and urged the Council to take advantage of talents in the Region to develop sports in the area.


Mr Amenowode asked the members to use the impending Regional Festival to revive sports in the Region and promised the support of the Regional Coordinating Council.


He urged the Council to work hard towards securing a land for a proposed multi-purpose sports complex with a seating capacity of 50,000 for the Region.
