“Our character well stretched for the future” – Le
Roy
Accra, Nov 22, Ghanadot/GNA – Ghana’s Black Stars trainer,
Coach Claude Le Roy has said that the character of the team
has been well stretched for future duels.
The Stars on Wednesday recovered from a 2-0 deficit to beat
Benin 4-2 in the finals of the Zenith Four Nation Tourney at
the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra in a manner the trainer
claimed depicted their true and real character.
Coach Le Roy told GNA Sports “our character was stretched to
the limit and our fight back has solidified our confidence
for future engagements.
“We have become more aware of what we can do and we will not
be afraid to be trailing in future because we know we can do
it again.”
Three great individual brilliant efforts by Laryea Kingston
inspired the Ghanaians to snatch the game from their West
African neighbours who defeated the United Arab Emirate (UAE)
1-0 to reach the finals.
The Frenchman, however, reckons that the level of opposition
received from Benin might differ from that of the Stars
Group A mates of Guinea, Morocco and Namibia during the 26th
African Cup of Nations, which beckons Ghana in 2008.
“We expect to meet better and tougher teams than Benin but
it was important for our confidence that we won.
“Playing at home is always a tough thing to do and to
overcome a side like Benin whilst we were down has boosted
our confidence for the Ghana 2008.”
Le Roy will camp his team 14 days to the commencement of the
biennial showpiece in Accra on January 20 and said the Stars
will be ready for the continental party.
The coach plans to invite 25 players for the camping to be
sited in the commercial capital of the UAE, Dubai.
“Selecting the final team is always the most difficult part
of my job.
“It is always tough to look into the eyes of the players to
tell them you are not part of the team and for that reason,
I only want to invite just a few players before selecting my
final 23.”
