Greater Accra championship fixed for Thursday

Accra, Dec. 19, GNA – The Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) will on Thursday, December, 21 organise a tournament to determine the regional champions in the various weight categories.


The event, which is slated for the Prisons Canteen at Cantonment and dubbed “Third Quarter Champion of Champions Tournament,” will involve winners and runners up from the first and second quarter tournaments.


Mr Gideon Quartey, vice chairman of GAABA said weigh in of boxers would take place at Panix Boxing Club from 6:00 a.m. on the day of the competition, while action commences at 2:00 p.m. the same day.


He entreated clubs and boxers to wear their accreditation tags for easy identification.


Boxers listed to compete include light flyweights, Jude Atteh of Fit Square Gym and Sulemana Tetteh of Wisdom Club.


In the flyweight division, Attoh Quashie’s Annan Ampiah, Black Panthers’ Jackson Nortey and Wisdom’s Issah Samir will fight for supremacy, while Fredrick Lawson of Fit Square, Ekow Wilson of Black Panther, Oblitey Commey of Square Deal and Enoch Adjei of Fir Square will gun for honours.


Featherweights, Emmanuel Mensah, Nii Armah Quaye and Nii Ofoli Tetteh, all of Fit Square and Michael Pappoe of Panix will vie for the ultimate, while Gofrfed Tetteh, Nii Offei Dodoo of Attoh Quarshie and Nayina Zakaria also of Attoh Quarshie will challenge for the lightweight crown.


Moses Domenyo of Fit Square, Abib Ahmed of Wisdom and Emmanuel Okine of Black Panthers are in line for the Light welterweight title.


In the welterweight category, Emmanuel Quarshie of Attoh Quarshie, Abu Iddrisu of Kasua Rangers and Emmanuel Zente of Fit Square are billed for the championship.


It will be a straight fight between Jiblim Amed of Wisdom Club and Emmanuel Tagoe of Believers’ Gym in the middleweight division.


Prince Amartefio of Will Power, Alhaji Rauf of Black Panthers, Samuel Danso of Wisdom and Forster Gabianu of Attoh Quarshie will square up in the light heavyweight class, while Nuhu Azumah of Attoh Quarshie and Mathew Nandole of Wisdom Club complete the pairings with a heavyweight duel.
