December 21,
Ghanadot - It
was an easy night for Joshua Clottey as he defeated
Shamone Alvarez in an IBF welterweight eliminator contest..
The contest went for 12 rounds.
Clottey came in weighing 146 lbs to Alvarez 145 lbs. Clottey
has a ring record of 32-2 with 20 KOs and Alvarez 19-0 with
11 KOs.
Over the
course of the fight, Clottey easily walked through Alvarez
punches to deliver many of his own. Exceptional in Clottey
fistic tools was his ability to deliver short double left
hooks to the ribs and jaws of Alvarez.
The
previously undefeated Alvarez had no answer to the
methodical pouding he received from Clottey all night.
There were no
knock downs but Avalarez was dazed several times on his feet
and could have been stopped had Clottey upped the pressure.
Clottey is
now the IBF's No.
1 welterweight contender
to the title held by Kermit Cintron.
The fight
took place at
the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas,
USA.
