 Press Release

LMVC

April 28, 2016

STAY VIGILANT, LMVCA TELLS POLITICAL PARTY AGENTS

Today, April 28 to May 8, the Electoral Commission is undertaking limited registration at some 3,500 registration centres simultaneously.

This exercise is aimed predominantly to capture Ghanaians who have turned 18 and have not yet being captured on the electoral roll, including all those who were too young to vote in 2012.

It is important to note that this exercise if aimed at only those who are 18 or above and can demonstrate eligibility (identity, citizenship, age, and residency).

We are aware of moves to abuse the system and wish to warn against that. In subsequent press release, we will give more details of this and expose those who mean to destroy our democracy.

Below are some guidelines we have put together for all party agents.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MONITORING REGISTRATION CENTER LAPTOPS AND FOR MONITORING THE REGISTRATION PROCESS

1. Each Registration Center has its own Registration Kit (laptop, camera, finger scanner, 2 big kit batteries) specific to that center. Each Kit has a unique number. RECORD this unique number. VERY IMPORTANT!

2. Check and VERIFY the TIME and DATE on the laptop being used for Registration. The time on the Laptop must be Current and in Real time. If the Time is 7am make sure the Laptop time is also 7am. Check this throughout the Registration.

3. If a laptop breaks down, make sure it is the ENTIRE KIT which is replaced, and not just the laptop. And please RECORD the new kit number. This is very important. But, any other item in the Kit which breaks down can be replaced without replacing the entire kit.

4. YOU MUST COLLECT ALL REGISTRATION REPORTS!!!!!

5. If the printer breaks down and they are not able to print the report, PLEASE insist that the Registration officer count the Form 1C that is with the Laminator. Please insist they count all the printouts when the printer was working to be sure how many people registered before the printer broke down and collect the count totals.

6. Most importantly, make sure that every individual who comes to register will have his or her BIOMETRIC DATA CAPTURED.

All party agents, coordinators, PCs and chairpersons must ensure that the new Voter ID card has the date of 28th of April (or the official date of registration) and not any other date because it appears some EC officials have tampered with some of the machines in our strongholds showing the dates 24th 25th 26th and 27th of April instead of the original date of 28th. The danger is that once any such registration enters the central database it will be rejected. Please be aware that this appears to be a deliberate ploy by the EC to disenfranchise voters in opposition strongholds. The danger is that once any such registration enters the central database it will be rejected. Please be aware that this appears to be a deliberate ploy by criminal elements in the EC to disenfranchise opposition voters.

We watch keenly and encourage Ghanaians who are eligible to turn up in their numbers to register and to as well report any unhealthy practice at the registration Centre that seeks to undermine our democracy.

Let my vote count don't destroy our democracy

Signed

David Asante
