Put Codes on DVLA Strikers
Julius Tei-Mensah Gbenartey

In recent times, the frequency and fatality of road accidents on our roads is very disturbing. The accidents have claimed several lives and rendered most victims maimed for life.

One cannot dispute the fact that most of these accidents could be directly attributed to the bad state of most of these vehicles on the streets. I get stunned  when i see the physical state of some buses on our streets with valid road worthiness striker from the Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Authority (DVLA) pasted on their cracked windscreens.

This is an endorsement of a "death trap as fit and worthy to convey Ghanaians on our streets. The question is: do the examination officers at the DVLA really see and examine such vehicles before issuing the road worthiness stickers?  To stop this phenomenon, certain drastic measures should be put in place.

There should be a provision for examination officers who issued those stickers to write their identity numbers. In that direction, all the examination officers should be issue with identity codes and this will imply that any vehicle with a road worthiness stickers could be traced to the officer from the DVLA who issued it with the said road worthiness sticker.

This will even go a long way to check fake road worthiness stickers also, if there are any. I think this exercise will go a long way to help check the examination officers of the DVLA who issued road worthiness stickers to vehicles that are not road worthy. Let us fiht against accidents on our roads.
