Are hooligans now ruling Ghana?
Obibinii Paa-Kwasi
I am sometimes flabbergasted to hear or see hooligans have their
way so easily when rules and laws exist. Recent happenings
within the country is gradually pointing to the fact that
hooligans, gangsters, mobs etc, now don’t only have their say
but they also have their way so easily thus performing their
acts of hooliganism in the full glare of our Police officers.
For sometime now, precisely since the NDC party came into
office, hooligans who always hide under the umbrella named “NDC
youth” have attacked various people for various ridiculous
reasons just because they think that their party is in
government.
Initially some of us thought that it was going to
stop especially some months after the transition. But little did
we know that the era of hooligans ruling us was just about to
start. Many are the awful incidents that have taken place to the
notice of our Police officers yet nothing has been done till
now.
Some of the incidents perpetuated by the NDC
hooligans include the seizure of public places of convenience or
“toilets”, sacking NYEP officers from their post, threatening
DCE’s who are refusing to give them jobs or listen to their
weird calls, organizing mobs to attack those who speak against
their leaders and many others. And what is so appalling is that
one of these hooligans by the nickname “Untouchable” has the
guts to go on air issuing threats to people as if the laws of
the land were in his pocket.
However the NDC hooligans on the 25th March, 2010 decided to
take their hooliganism to a different level when they locked up
their party headquarters insisting that until one Carl Wilson
was sacked from his office as the Chairman of Confiscated
Vehicle Allocation Committee they were not going to allow their
party officers to work. Some few hours after this threat Carl
Wilson was sacked, hence I ask; these hooligans are also calling
for the “head” of Betty Mould Iddrisu our Attorney General and
would the government/President listen to their lousy voice or is
waiting for them to launch an attack on maybe the castle or the
Attorney General’s office before their wish will be granted?
Although the government may come out to deny that
the actions of their hooligans has nothing to do with the
dismissal of Carl Wilson, I know that it has, because many
people had complained about the conduct of Carl Wilson since
last year yet nothing had been done to him till now so why now?
Is it not obvious that the voices of the hooligans are more
melodious to the government than the ordinary Ghanaians? Anyway
so it now pays to be a hooligan by kind courtesy of the NDC
government.
In all of this, it is sad to know that our Police officers
continue to behave like spectators who seem not to care about
these acts of lawlessness and the least said about the Ghana
Police for now the better. But the question is for how long will
these hooligans be allowed to have their way just because
they’re NDC activists? Anyway for now, it seems that hooligans
are ruling Ghana and the earlier we all stand up against their
acts of lawlessness the better for us all.
