Asamankese Gov't hospital faces collapse ..as NHIS refuses reimbursement
By Awudu Salami Sule, Ghanadot

Accra, July 21, Ghanadot - The Asamankese Government Hospital in the Eastern Region has is on the brink of folding up and it is a result of huge amount of money owed to it by the National Health Insurance Sheme (NHIS).

According to the administrator of the hospital, Mr Kwame Ampadu, the National Health Insurance Sheme owed the hospital to the tune of GHC 460,000 and has not release any money to the hospital to offset its debt since January this year.

In an interview with Ghanadot, Mr Ampadu revealed that, the inability of the NHIS authorities to release money to the hospital has led to a complete collapse of the hospital and if nothing is done about the situation the hospital would closed down from tomorrow 21 July.

"Since January this year to date we have not been reimburse and there is no logistics to cater for our patients", he revealed.

Mr Ampadu further said, the hospital was able to survive as a a result of bevevolence work by the KorleBu Teaching Hospital who he said use to give them certain basic equipments to work at the hospital. "But they have for the past one month refused to support us with any equipments and there is no money to buy them too", he addded.

He has therefore call on the authorities of the scheme to as a matter of urgency reimbursed the hospital for the money owed to it.
