I left a vibrant economy-Kufuor
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, July 14, Ghanadot - Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has once again debunked allegations from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) that he has left behind a bad economy and mismanaged the affairs of state.

According to him, “they rushed with their political statement and in decision making and unfortunately for them they were quickly refuted by the World Bank and the IMF”.

Explaining further, Mr. Kufuor said his government left a transparent and united government, but there is hypocrisy on the part of some politicians and the media who always want to make noise for their voice to be heard by accusing others of corruption, without any credible evidence.

In an interview on Citi FM, Ex-Presdient Kufuor revealed that during his tenure, Human Resource Development was his topmost priority and led to the creation of numerous jobs for the youth and the establishment of training centres all over the country for them so that they can be equipped with skills to work for the development of the nation.

He also dismissed the allegations that he imposed his decisions on his party, stating, “let me make it clear, I have never imposed my decisions on the party. I will not do that and it will not even be easy for me to do that, because we have national executives” he concluded.

Former president John Agyekum Kufuor used the occasion to commend the President of the United States of America for refocusing African leaders to the task of developing the African continent.

According to him American presidents visiting Ghana has been more of a tradition as former president Bill Clinton visited the country during the tenure of former president Rawlings, his term also saw former president Bush visiting Ghana and now President Barack Obama in the time of President Mills.

He said this shows how strong the friendship of the two countries stand and how similar and familiar things are in both countries.

Ex-president Kufuor maintained that he will not put so much emphasis on the support the US government through President Obama will render to Ghana, but was rather happy that Obama is a son of Africa.

“What I price above all in Obama’s visit is the fact that he is a son of Africa and he has managed to set the historic record of the first African-American becoming the president of the United State.”

He said Obama’s visit is an inspiration to not only Ghana but the rest of African, and with his policy statement of Africa, it is important for Ghanaian youth to wake up to help build Ghana.

Parody on Obama's address to Africa

Commentary, July 14, Ghanadot - My fellow African leaders are not happy – in fact, we are irate – at what President Obama said in Accra on July 11, 2009. So I have been deputized by the Coconut Union to speak on their behalf.
