Accra, Jan 18, Ghanadot - Reports reaching Ghanadot.com
indicate that one person believed to be a worker of the Tema
Oil Refinery (TOR) was burnt to death beyond recognition,
while another sustained serious degrees of burns after
another major fire outbreak hit the station, gutting the
loading terminal of the Refinery's complex.
The victim to be one Ebo Fryer, a staff of TOR.
The blaze, which destroyed a substantial part of the TOR
complex, was too huge to be extinguished by the refinery's
fire brigade, thus requiring the assistance of the Ghana
National Fire Service, the police, GHAPOHA, VALCO and the
military to put down the fire.
Six tankers were burnt completely while a seventh, in an
attempt to escape the blaze, ran into a drain.
Reports indicate that there were huge clouds of thick,
black, acrid oily smoke and flames leaping out of the
loading section of the refinery.
Details of the source of the inferno are still sketchy, but
reports say it has caused extensive damage to property.
