Prof. Akosa lauds Prez Mills for declaring Founder’s Day
for Dr. Nkrumah
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot
Accra, Feb 20, Ghanadot - The
president of the Kwame Nkrumah Foundation, Professor Agyeman
Badu Akosa has expressed his excitement and has acknowledged
President Evans Atta Mills endorsement of
September 23rd as Founder’s Day to honour
the first president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah for
his immense contribution for Ghana.
“I think this for me, is the highest point of this country’s
recognition of the immense contribution of Osagyefo Dr.
Kwame Nkrumah”.
Professor Akosa said a country that would
not honour its leaders was
not worth dying for. He added that this move by the
president had assured him that the
President Mills was a man who kept his
word.
“I must say I am so overjoyed at
the statement that was made. I know they have it in their
manifesto, but yes there are things in the manifestos that
never see the light of day”.
There are some members within the
opposition party today who think
it is irrelevant to initiate Founder’s Day for Dr. Nkrumah,
because they believe he does not deserve it.
Professor Akosa in contrast said he is not
surprised that the minority and the NPP family feel that
way, adding that the detention preventive act that they
have been
complaining about, that it was a cruel
on Dr. Nkrumah's part, rather
saved lives because of the violent nature
of the period.
“This country was going through hell, so many people were
being killed and detention act saved a lot of lives. If they
were victims, I think they were at the wrong place at the
right time so their views are not
something I will take at all”.
Professor Badu Akosa maintained that no matter what anyone might
feel feel about Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, he
would still be
the first president of Ghana and the one who declared
Ghana independent in 1957.
“The man who declared Ghana independent in 1957 was Osagyefo
Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and all those who have sought
to tarnish the image of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah through lies,
conspiracy, sabotage and substitute, I tell them they have
lost the battle”.
