Citizens of Volta urged to help develop region

Accra, Feb 27, Ghanadot - The president of the Volta
Foundation (VF), Dumega Raymond Okudzeto, has called on citizens of the Volta
regions to join hands with the foundation to help attain an optimum well being
for the people in the region.
He said the foundation, which had over the last three years assisted communities
in the region to develop, would this year embark on several projects and,
therefore, needed all citizens of the region to come on board.
Dumega Okudzeto made the call in an address at the third anniversary celebration
of VF at the Ho polytechnic auditorium.
The foundation, he said, would embark on a programme dubbed, "Youth in agric-
business for prosperity", to assist the youth in agriculture
in order to develope the agriculture
industry in the region.
"This year, the VF has also decided to focus on quality education among other
equally important commitments", he said.
He said the VF Educational Endowment and Scholarship Fund, would award brilliant
but needy students in the region.
The Dufia of Alakple, Torgbi Kporku III, also in an address at the anniversary,
called on the people of the region to eschew avarice, greed, apathy and
jealousies and move forward with a common vision and purpose.
"Our time-tested traditional and cultural values of humility, respect,
truthfulness, hardwork, loyalty, courage, honesty and most importantly, the fear
of God, must remain the pillars of our endeavours and success", he said.
He called on engineers, doctors, economists, investment and consultants,
planners, bankers, among others, from the Volta region to help in the
advancement of the region.
He, therefore, commended VF for vision and plans of developing the region,
adding, "we have been this way several times but today, i can see and feel a new
spirit of hope and tenacity from your faces".
Mr. Sam Okudzeto, who is a well-known legal practitioner in an address at the
function, called for a strategic plan from the government to assist schools and
households with internet connections.
He said that was President Barack Obama's plan for the united states, as well as
that of Gordon Brown in the United Kingdom.
"Unless we address this serious issue of communication, we will be unable to
meet our Millennium Development Goals (MDG)", he stated.
