Prez Mills is not in competition
with Nana Addo-Mahama Ayariga
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot
Accra, March 18, Ghanadot - The president John Evans Atta Mills
has issued a stern warning to critics not to take his leniency
as a weakness.
In his most unusual demeanor the president said recent
developments in the country have given him enough cause for
anxiety and concern.
“There is no other government in this country. There is no other
president in this country… where you have people arrogate to
themselves certain rights. Where people threaten that they are
going to advise themselves and take the law into their own
hands, I Atta Mills will not allow this to happen.
“I respect civility and politeness and I believe that people
have taken my respect for peaceful co-existence as weakness,
timidity and inability to act,” the president lamented.
The president made these remarks when members of the Ghana
Journalists Association paid a courtesy call on him at the
Castle, Osu on Tuesday.
Even though he was not emphatic on who or what these worrying
developments are, one’s guess could not have been too far from
right.
It is believed by members of the opposition NPP that President
Mills statement was provoked by the welcome reception for Nana
Akuffo Addo by the NPP faithfuls, but the presidential
spokesperson, Mr. Mahama Ayariga dismissed this claim saying the
president was only address issues that were of concern to him.
Mr. Ayariga said there is is no way President Mills will be
jealous of Nana Addo, because he is not in competition with him.
According to him, the president made that statement in reaction
to the manner a section of the public have been thinking that
President Mills was weak regarding how to rule the nation.
