Fire at Energy Ministry explained
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, May 27, Ghanadot - Reports from the Ministry of Energy indicated that the fire that gutted one of the offices at the ministry was caused by electrical faults with the air conditioning.

Appliances and equipment worth several thousands of cedis were damaged in the fire that torched the office of Mr. Wisdom Ahiataku Togobo , the head of renewable energy at the Ministry.

Investigations revealed that some personnel at the Ministry used fifteen of the sixteen fire extinguishers to control the fire before the Fire Service took over the situation.

The office of one of the deputy Ministers of information was gutted by fires last week where items running into several thousands of Ghana cedis were destroyed.

According to the Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Michael Akwasi Sarpong said a fridge, a televisions set and an air conditioner were destroyed by the fires but maintains that no official documents were affected.

He reiterated that but for the timely intervention of personnel from the Ministry, the damage could have been worse.

To him, it was necessary for the electrical wiring and some of the equipment at the ministry to be reviewed and possibly be changed after fires engulfed an office in the building two weeks ago.

No casualties were recorded from the incident, and according to him, the cause of that fire, according to him was also from an old air conditioner in the office.
