Accra, June 11, Ghanadot - Former
UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has stated that Ghanaians
must keep an eye on leadership to make sure that persons
appointed to positions of authority are responsible and
accountable.
“We need a stronger civil society; a civil society that is
active, that is robust; that will monitor the key issues.”
Mr. Annan who is also Chair of the Africa Progress Panel at
the ongoing World Economic Forum in South Africa said Ghana
has to do a lot to improve upon governance and civil society
activities.
The meeting which was formally opened by the South African
President Jocob Zuma is dominated by the recession on the
continent.
One of the key events on the program is the release of the
African progress report which will offer solutions on how a
united African leadership can address challenges
for the continent’s continuous
development.
Mr Kofi Annan believes Africa needs reliable partners to be
able to contain the impact of the crisis.
“To contain the impact of the crisis and cease the
opportunities, Africa needs reliable partners; it also needs
determined and accountable leadership.
