Attorney General-I can’t jail Muntaka
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, June 29, Ghanadot - The Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Betty Mould Iddrisu has stated that she cannot prosecute the resigned Youth and Sports Minister on the basis of allegations of misappropriation and malfeasance brought against him by the Chief Accountant of the Youth and Sports Ministry, Mr. Adim Odoom.

According to the Minister, the report of the Bureau of National Investigations, (BNI) submitted to President, after investigations into the allegations, leaves her nothing to prosecute Mubarak Muntaka on counts of corruption.

A couple of weeks ago, at a lecture to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the June 4 uprising, the minister said the principles of the June 4 revolution championed by her party’s founder and former president Jerry Rawlings still reign supreme and that the ideals of accountability and probity which underpinned the 1979 revolt were still relevant, and promised to prosecute even her colleague ministers who will go contrary to the law.

But in an interview with Citi FM, Mrs. Mould Iddrisu revealed that after perusing the BNI’s report, she did not see how she could take the resigned Minister to court and that there is nothing within that report that will support a criminal charge.
