40 homes to be
pulled down today
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot
Accra, Aug 14, Ghanadot - About 40 homes in a gated community in
Community 20, at Batsona in Accra, are about to be pulled down
following a court decision against the property developer,
Osullivan Estates.
As of Thursday morning, bulldozers had amassed at the precincts
of the estates, ready to pull down the homes.
Houses costing about $55,000 each, are on the verge of being
reduced into rubble.
Tensed owners of the homes are hoping something fast can be done
to save the properties they bought with lifetime savings.
A home owner in the affected community told Joy FM’s Super
Morning Show host Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah a lawyer from HFC Bank,
mortgage financiers of the homes, had come to try and talk to
the people not to execute the judgement.
But the plaintiffs in whose favour the judgement was given
insisted that they would go ahead with the demolition unless an
authentic stay of execution was produced.
She explained that following the judgement, HFC filed a motion
for stay of execution but when the day came for the motion to be
moved for consideration by the judge, the docket could not be
found.
But the General Manager, Business Development of HFC Bank, Mr.
Charles Matison gave the assurance the demolition will not take
place.
He assured the stay of execution had been granted and that
original copy was about to be served on the plaintiffs.
Mr. Matison corrected an earlier impression that the homes were
bought from HFC bank, explaining that the bank granted the homes
mortgages to buy the homes from Osullivan Estates which he
described as a reputable estate developer.
He said the judgement was obtained on the blind side of HCF bank
and intimated the ruling will be appealed.
Mr. Matison advised home owners not to ran ignominiously to the
estate developers when people claim ownership of the land on
which their properties are cited but to stand against such
claimants.
