Isaac Osei joins NPP flagbearership race
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, Oct 8, Ghanadot - An aspiring NPP Presidential candidate for the 2012 elections, Hon. Isaac Osei, has stated that his decision to join the flagbearership race of the party is not in any way under the influence of the former President, J. A Kufuor.

The Subin MP has declared his intention to contest the party’s flagbearership position but maintains that his decision is an independent one.

Former President, Kufuor has in the past been accused of openly throwing his weight behind some candidates during party elections.

In 2005, he was alleged to have openly declared support for Mr. Stephen Ntim when he (Stephen Ntim) contested Haruna Esseku and Peter Mac Manu for the position of the Party's National Chairman.

Eventually, Haruna Esseku had to pull out on the day of the election. The former president is also believed to be a big fan of Presidential hopeful Alan Kyeremanteng.

But Isaac Osei in an interview on Citi FM said he is not one of J. A Kufuor’s men, adding that, the real men of ex-president Kufuor are there.

“People say that I am being brought in by President Kufuor. This is completely untrue. I believe that the President’s men are those ones who formed his first cabinet; men like Osafo Marfo, Nana Akuffo Addo, and a host of others because those were his trusted lieutenants he could work with.”

Although the next general elections are some three years away, internal lobbying and campaign for that one man to lead the NPP has started in earnest.

The 2008 flagbearer, Nana Akuffo and Alan Kyeremanteng obviously top the list of interested persons in the position.

Isaac Osei's name is yet another that has emerged strongly.
