Sipa Yankey: Ministerial position means nothing to me
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, Oct 12, Ghanadot - The resigned Minister of Health, Dr George Sipa Yankey has stated that his decision to resign from his position is mainly to “fight” the Mabey and Johnson case and also to ensure that the focus of the NDC government is not derailed as a result of the Mabey and Johnson case.

“People want to use this case and use me to launch an attack against Professor Mills and I want to deny them that opportunity.”

Speaking on Citi FM, Dr. Yankey disclosed that a ministerial position means nothing to him and for that matter his resignation will not prevent him from contributing his dues to the nation.

“Being a Minister means nothing to me, I live in my own house and I have not even taken salary. It’s service to my nation and I can render this service in any capacity and not only in a Ministerial capacity.”

He has denied receiving any bribe from Mabey and Johnson to influence the award of some bridge contracts in the 1980s and 1990s.

Mr. Sipa Yankey said, “They say they gave me $10,000, in another document they said $10,500, in another document, they said 15,000 pounds, so which is which? I have never taken any bribe from anybody.
