Prez Mills: ‘Ayekoo' to workers in Ghana
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, May 1, Ghanadot - President John Evans Atta Mills  commended workers all over the country for their hard work and dedication towards the development of Ghana. He described workers as very important in the socio-economic development of the country thus, he said, it was essential to ensure that their living standards were improved.

Speaking at this year’s May Day parade at the Independence Square in Accra, the president said he has asked for a review of the Pension Law and would "not hesitate to review legislation or agreements to ensure that Ghanaians are not shortchanged.”

According to him, the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the EU was also being reviewed by the government and that his government would seek counsel and inputs from the key players in industries likely to be affected by the agreement before making a decision.

On job creation, the president reiterated his government’s commitment to create jobs for the people because of its belief that Ghanaians were eentitled to decent living and well-paid jobs, and that his administration would continue to promote and create employment opportunities in all sectors of the economy.

He assured Ghanaians that the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), the Youth in Agriculture Programme (YAP) among others wouldl be rejuvenated and enhanced to provide more jobs for the good people of Ghana.

“Government has also approved a sum of GH¢7.5 million for the continuation of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty programme.”

He called on the reconstituted boards to look in the unlawful dismissal of some workers in the country and also to help those who were already affected by this problem.

The president called on all workers in the country to work harder to help the NDC government deliver better governance and better living conditions for all Ghanaians.
