Accra, July 9, Ghanadot - Visiting
US President Barrack Obama is expected to meet the two
Ex-Presidents of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor and Jerry John
Rawlings at a breakfast meeting at the Castle on Saturday,
next week.
The Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional
Integration, Alhaji Muhammed Mumuni, disclosed yesterday.
He stressed that the involvement of the two former heads is
part of the welcoming process to help iron out the unhealthy
difference between the former leaders.
“You cannot conceivably receive an eminent visitor like
President Obama of the USA and totally exclude President
Kufuor or President Rawlings.”, Alhaji Mumuni added.
“I can confirm that these two eminent persons are part of a
process for the welcome of President Barack Obama,” he
hinted.
The two former leaders are perceived as not the best of
friends.
This upcoming event is however not the first time the two
are meeting upon the visit of a US President.
The two were present at a dinner with Obama’s predecessor,
George W. Bush when the former US President visited Ghana
last year.
Alhaji Mumuni said Mr. Obama will be in the country in the
company of his wife and his two daughters.
President Obama is expected to visit the La General Hospital
and later the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC)
to address Ghana’s Parliament.
Mr Obama will also take a tour of the Cape Coast Castle to
observe some historical relics, while a public durbar of
chiefs and people of the area will also honour Michelle, his
wife, with the title of 'Queen".
