New Image for Ghana Police, Acting IGP declares

Abdul Salam Sule, Ghanadot

Accra, Feb, Ghanadot - The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mrs. Elizabeth Mills Robertson has revealed that, her outfit would soon embark on an internal audit process to give the police service new image. The first female IGP made this remark in her maiden address to security personnel at the Police Headquarters yesterday.

According to her, the audit process is nationwide and would begin from the headquarters in Accra before the rest of the regions. She said the various overpopulated departments in the police service would undergo a downsizing of personnel. She however pointed out that; affected personnel would be transferred to other regions to bolster the activities of the police service there.

Mrs. Mills Robertson was recently appointed Acting Inspector General of Police by President Mills after he retired the former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Patrick Kwarteng Acheampong on Thursday, 29 January 2009.

Mrs Elizabeth Mills promised that, the audit process by the police service would streamline the activities of police service in the country.

Outlining some changes she intended to initiate in the service, the former Deputy Inspector General of Police noted that, her administration would seek to solve the serviceʼs age old problem of accommodation which compromises the integrity and output of personnel of the service. She said; more places of accommodation would be secured for the personnel.

Mrs. Robertson pointed out that, there is unhealthy relationship between the police service and the general public and the service would develop mechanisms to win the friendship and cooperation of the general public.

She also noted that, her administration would focus primarily on crime prevention.

She said the ideology of the Police Service was going to shift from crime detention and apprehension of criminals to crime prevention.

Mrs. Mills Robertson pointed out that, this new ideology is borne from the failure of the old ideology of crime detention and apprehension of criminals to effectively curb the rising crime rate in Ghana.

To ensure the success of the new direction of Ghana Police Service, Mrs Robertson said, more police personnel will be deployed to patrol the streets, business districts and the residential areas.

She has therefore called for the cooperation of the general public with the police.

Thinking Chinese food for dinner?

Feature, Feb 5, Ghanadot - I am not sure about the real origin of operators of Chinese restaurants in Ghana. But I would assume that they are not real Chinese because of the cost for this culinary service in Ghana. Real Chinese are thrifty and economically sensitive people. They will not allow this outrageous pricing of Chinese food, such as happens in Ghana, to occur on main land China........ ..More
