Obama's visit has not relegated
Ghanaian security

Accra, July 9, Ghanadot - There
have been concerns largely in public discussions that
Ghanaian security institutions and operatives have been
sidelined in key activities involving the visiting US
President and his wife, Michelle Obama from 10th of July to
Saturday, 11 July, 2009.
The Public Relations Director of the Ghana Police Service,
DSP Kwesi Ofori, has however refuted the claims.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show this morning, he
said, providing security for such occasions have always been
a collaborative, inter-agency effort between all the
security agencies and the foreign partners.
DSP Kwesi Ofori said the issue is not one of who is in
charge but what is being done to ensure security is
top-notch and that the planned events pass off successfully.
He explained that several meetings to plan security for the
occasion and which involved Federal Security Agents have
been coordinated by Ghana's national security.
"The Police Service is posting a strong 10,000 men and women
within Accra and Cape Coast for the occasion and they are
determined to give of their best to ensure the visit is a
successful and memorable one', he assured.
The police, he said, will be in charge of security, escort,
crowd control, traffic management and direction.
"It is a partnership, a collaboration between all the
security agencies in Ghana and that of their American
counterparts; so it is not a question of who takes control.
In contemporary security issues it is the partnership and
working as a team that matter but not a single organisation
to take centre stage", DSP Kwesi Ofori said.
