President Kufuor signs book of condolence for the US President

Accra, Jan. 4, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday signed the book of condolence opened for the late United States (US) President Gerald Ford at the American Embassy in Accra.

He conveyed his sympathies and that of the nation to the US Government and the bereaved family for the lost of the former leader.

He wrote: "On behalf of Government and people of the Republic of Ghana, expressing condolences to the Government and bereaved family of the United States of America on the passing away of President Gerald Ford.

"He served his great nation with merit. May he rest in peace."

Republican President Ford, the 38th US President, died at the ripe age of 93.
He became President following the resignation of President Richard Nixon over the Watergate Scandal.

He has already been buried.

Meanwhile, President Kufuor later in the day granted audience to Professor Frances Caincross, Rector of the Exeter College, Oxford University, London, at the Castle, Osu.

The Rector had been invited to join in the national celebration of the Golden Jubilee of independence but decided to visit earlier as it might not be possible for her to come over during the jubilee day.

She presented to President Kufuor souvenir from his alma mater. They later held discussions behind closed doors.
