Prez Mills replaces Asaga with Abongo
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, Feb 12, Ghanadot - Mr. Albert Abongo, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bongo has been nominated for the Ministry of Water Resources Works and Housing by President John Atta Mills. Mr. Abongo replaces Mr. Moses Asaga, whose nomination was revoked following his approval of the contentious ex-gratia awards recently.

He promised to work ardently towards providing potable water for the majority of Ghanaians if he was vetted and approved by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

Mr. Abonga's appointment to the ministry puts an end to the case and shuts Mr. Asaga's dreams of becoming the sector minister.

However, it is important to note that Mr. Abongo is a native of Tongo which like Nabdam is situated in the Upper East Region of Ghana.

The nomination of Mr. Abonga is strategic and political so as not to offend the Frafra people.  Thus, the extraction of Mr. Asaga from the position will not be misinterpreted as denying the people the chance to head that particular position.

President Mills government is taking vital measures to ensure that the withdrawal of Mr. Moses Asaga does not create a political backlash in the area.

The people of that region have already insisted that ministerial appointments be spread among the major ethnic groups of the Region to stop undue tension in the region.
