GNA goes hi-tech
Accra, June 6, Ghanadot/GNA - Nana Rex Owusu Ansah, Board
Chairman of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), on Friday unveiled
a new digital news board that would give the public
up-to-date major news headlines from Ghana and around the
globe.
The facility located at the entrance to the GNA Head Office
and estimated at GH¢3,800, would tell Ghanaians about
happenings around the clock at short intervals.
Speaking at the inauguration, Nana Owusu-Ansah said the
device was one of the ways the Agency was using to get to
the public direct instead of going through radio and
television stations and newspapers and on-line subscribers.
He said plans were underway to make the Agency a multimedia
to meet the demands of the information superhighway and to
contribute to the building of a knowledge-based Ghanaian
society.
Nana Owusu Ansah stressed the importance of GNA and said it
should be provided with the requisite resources to enable it
to deliver its mandate of providing truthful and accurate
news and giving fair coverage to all political parties
before, during and after Election 2008.
He said the Government was doing its best to improve the
welfare of workers with the establishment of the Fair Wages
Commission and appealed to the staffs to reciprocate.
Nana Appau Duah, General Manager of GNA, said the project,
which is in operation, would be replicated in all regional
capitals and at vantage points such as the Kotoka
International Airport and Kwame Nkrumah Circle, both in
Accra.
He said the project would help to boost the Agency's image
as well as attract clients to GNA's Advertising Business
Department.
"Apart from its core function of producing news, GNA is
putting premium on its Business Development Department by
getting more advertisements and generating more income," he
said.
Mr Gordon Quartey, Head of Operations, 'Technology for You',
the company that installed the device, said the news board
would be operated from the newsroom of GNA.
