Teachers call for intensification of educational reforms

Takoradi, Nov. 11, Ghanadot/GNA – Teachers of Home Economics in the western region, have appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to intensify education on the new educational reforms.

They said that would enhance the effective delivery of the modern concepts in the newly introduced curricular.

The teachers made the appeal after a day’s training for members of the Western Regional Ghana Home Economics Association at Takoradi on Monday.

The teachers noted that the new curricula needed to be explained thoroughly to enable teachers disseminate its contents effectively.

Madam Florence Forson, a retired educationist and resource person noted that teachers should not feel shy to ask their colleagues for assistance in their field of endeavour.

“It is not illegal to ask your colleague to explain concepts and ideas to you and you must not remain in your little corner” she added.

Madam Forson reminded teachers that their students expected them to assist them to pass their examinations and improve their knowledge adding “teachers must do everything within their means to meet the aspirations of their students.”

Mrs Caroline M. Amegavlui, Regional Chairperson of the Association said the training programme, attended by 150 teachers in both public and private schools, was organised and sponsored by the association for its members.

She said the training aimed at deepening the understanding of teachers, exposing them to new teaching techniques and creating a conducive environment for teachers to network to achieve success in their respective fields of endeavours.

Mrs Amegavlui said it was also to assist teachers to improve their preparation of lesson notes and acquire new teaching methodology in teaching.
