Need for religious
institutions to promote peace and unity - Rev.
Adams

Augustine Adams, Executive Secretary of
Department of Ecumenical Relations and
Inter-Religious Dialogue of the Catholic Church
on Tuesday said promotion of unity, peace and
development must be the main agenda of religious
institutions in the country.
He said inter-faith dialogue must be a
continuous process that should be made to
transform the individual.
Rev. Adams made the observation at the opening
session of a three-day Provincial Seminar for
Coordinators of the Catholic Archdiocese of Cape
Coast, Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi and Sefwi
Wiawso at Apowa near Takoradi.
He said the ecumenical movement of the Catholic
Church was established to promote dialogue among
all faiths by using prayer, actions and dialogue
to promote peace and unity.
Rev. Jesse Sackey of Christian Council of Ghana
said doctrinal differences must not divide the
people neither must it turn them into refugees
in their own land.
He said the various religions must use
reconciliation, forgiveness as their yardstick
next year.
Alhaji Iddrisu Zakariah, who represented the
Western Regional Imam said clans, tribes and
class system had divided the nation and led to
inter and intra religious violence and
conflicts.
"We must respect the views and ideas of others
and adopt the positive attitudes to suit our
needs instead of destroying ourselves," he
stressed.
Alhaji Zakariah said without peace, tolerance
and unity there would be no progress.
