EC commends polling agents for orderly conduct
Adidome, (V/R), Dec. 7, Ghanadot/GNA – The Electoral
Commission (EC) on Sunday commended Polling Agents of the
Political Parties contesting Election 2008 for their
non-partisan conduct at the polling stations.
“Most of the agents have maintain a cordial working
relationship with electoral officials, observer groups and
share electoral information among them at the polling
stations,” Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan told the Ghana News Agency
during a tour of some centres in the Greater Accra and Volta
Regions.
The Chairman who was monitoring voting in the two regions
encouraged the electorate to maintain a serene political
environment as voting proceeded.
He urged the electorate, political parties and the media to
exercise restraint especially in the face of minor
infractions; “as a human institutions these infractions are
expected, and our officials are well able to manage it, we
should not panic”.
Some of the polling centres visited included, Akuafo Hall,
Madina, Marts Academy, Lenobinya Temporal Booth, Kasseh
Clinic, Dawa, Dawhenya, Vume, Big Ada, Sogakope, Sege, and
Mafi Adidome.
Party Agents of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the
National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples National
Convention (PNC), Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Democratic
Peoples Party (DPP) and Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) were
present at some of the polling stations.
GNA observed during the rounds that apart from the agents of
the two leading parties- NPP and NDC, who seriously took
notes and had electoral seal to lock the ballot box, the
remaining contesting agents were mere observers at the
centres.
