The
case
between
Ms
Elizabeth
Ohene,
Former
Editor
of
the
Daily
Graphic
and
Minister
of
State
at
Ghana’s
Presidency,
on
the
controversy
over
the
books
she
authored
from
articles
earlier
published
by
the
Daily
Graphic,
has
reached
an
out
of
court
settlement..
A
statement
issued
by the
board
of
of
the
state
owned
Daily
Graphic,
The
Graphic
Communications
Group
Limited,
said
the
company’s
Board
of
Directors
took
the
decision,
after
a
meeting
between
Ms
Ohene
and
the
board,
to
discontinue
the
case
in
court
unconditionally
and
to
have
the
issue
settled
amicably
with
the
former
editor.
Ms
Ohene
two
weeks
ago
launched
her
two
books:
“Thinking
Allowed”
and
“Stand
Up
and
Be
Counted”
which
recounted
the
situations
she
worked
in
and
the
experiences
of
the
early
day’s
of
the
Green
Revolution
launched
by
the
then
Flight
Lieutenant
Jerry
Rawlings.
In
the
statement
issued
by
the
Board
and
signed
by
its
Chairman
Professor
Kwame
Gyeke,
The
Graphic
Group
reiterated
that
it
owned
the
copyright
of
the
editorials
and
articles
published
in
its
newspapers
and
that
it
could
make
concessions
to
employees
and
contributors
to
use
such
materials
as
and
when
it
deemed
it
appropriate.
The
action
by
the
Daily
Graphic
was
unprecedented
in
the
history
of
newspaper
operations
in
the
country
and
was
seen
as a
test-case
to
see
how
the
case
was
going
to
turn
out.
The
Board
concluded
that
having
regard
to
the
unique
role
played
by
Ms
Ohene
at
that
critical
time
in
the
history
of
the
Daily
Graphic
and
the
country,
she
would
be
granted
the
permission
to
use
materials
for
the
publication
of
her
two
books.
The
Graphic
Corporation
had
last
week
filed
a
writ
at
the
High
Court
in
Accra
seeking
among
other
things
, to
restrain
Ms
Ohene
from
publishing
or
selling
her
two
books
on
the
grounds
that
she
had
infringed
the
copyright
of
the
Daily
Graphic
with
regard
to
the
editorials
and
articles
used
in
the
books.
Media
analysts
who
read
the
first
and
second
publications
on
the
matter
said
they
are
amused
by
the
turn
of
events.
“I
am
not
surprised
about
the
turn
of
events
because,
we
are
talking
about
power
and
authority.
Besides
it
is
because
issues
concerning
the
former
President,
Jerry
Rawlings,
are
at
stake,”
one
analyst
said.
