No Political Party Assisted Me - Samia Nkrumah
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot

Accra, December 22, Ghanadot - Samia Nkrumah, Member of Parliament (MP) elect for Jomoro and daughter of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has denied allegations that it was through the help of the ruling party, New Patriotic Party (NPP) that made her win the seat, adding that the allegations are false and should not be taken seriously.

“The daughter of Kwame Nkrumah comes and she said she wants to contest and she wants to be faithful to the principles of Nkrumah and you think a thousand Ghanaians would not come forward to help her.

“Why would I need to go to any party either than the Nkrumah’s? Individual Ghanaians helped me, I could not have done this campaign without their support.  The expense was unbelievable and there was no way I could have done it without the help of industrious sons and daughters of this country”.

She said the legacy of her father played a very significant role in her victory and that the Convention People’s Party (CPP) complimented the legacy because they understood what Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was trying to do for his country and people.

“We understood the principles of Nkrumaism, which are liberation, social justice, unity and peace. We understood what he was trying to do and that is what we told the people of Jomoro.

“We are inspired by Kwame Nkrumah’s vision and his effort to develop Ghana rapidly and we want to replicate that in a small way in Jomoro. We want to make Jomoro a showcase and this is how to start”.

To her, the CPP’s inability to win the December 7 election was very disappointing.  She also assured members that together, they could build the party to achieve the great causes that members expect of it.

According to her, visiting the people of her constituency and knowing the needs of the people gave her sufficient ideas for her campaign platform and that her own charisma as a person daughter of Nkrumah also contributed a very significant role.

When asked why she could not speak her father's language, she explained how her family was forced to leave the country at an earlty age in 1966 at the time of the first coup.

"i also often use my body language and the help of my team to communicate effectively with my people" she said,  "and I think they did not only understand my body language, they also understood the real message”.

“For me it was very important that I start from Nzema land where the journey began for Kwame Nkrumah, I couldn’t just go anywhere in Ghana, I needed a point of reference and that was why I went back to Jomoro as a daughter who has returned”.

The only CPP representative in next Parliament revealed that politics is not about insulting your opponent or using negative words and ideas, but rather going to the people you want to lead and telling them about your dream to make their community better and your wish to improve their lives.  She recommended that it would help the country a great deal if politicians learned to engage in politics devoid of dishonesty.

She commended the people of Jomoro for having the faith in her to elect her to lead the constituency and assured she will do everything possible to ensure that the community becomes a place to behold.
