Who goes to the Golden Jubilee House.. Nana or Mills?
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot
Accra, Dec 28, Ghanadot - Ghana has shown the rest of the
world of her maturity as far as democracy and the rule of
law is concerned.Twelve hours after polls closed for Ghanaʼs
tightly fought presidential run-off, results from
constituencies across the country continue to trickle in.
As at now, no clear sign has emerged yet of who might carry
the mantle, with constituency after constituency results
tilting the run in the direction of either contenders; Nana
Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or
Professor John Evans Atta Mills of the National Democratic
Congress (NDC).
Meanwhile the NDC on Sunday evening began to maintain the
gains it made in the Central Region during the December 7
elections, as certified results of the presidential runoff
trickle in.
In the Effutu constituency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has
polled 12, 236 and Professor John Evans Atta Mills, 14,790
with 347 of the ballots cast rejected. On December 7, the
NDC obtained 14, 508, as against 12, 992 by the NPP.
In the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrim (KEEA) constituency, the
NPP polled 18,105 as against the NDC's 28,640 with 803 votes
rejected. On December 7, the NDC polled 24, 808 and the NPP
16, 929 votes.
Voters in the Cape Coast constituency cast 39, 917 ballots
for NDC while the NPP had 31, 521 votes as against 37,994
and 32,018 respectively on December 7. A total of 577
ballots were rejected in Sunday's election.
The NDC had 16, 858 ballots cast in its favour as against
14, 702 polled by the NPP, while 523 ballots were rejected
in the Agona East Constituency .
Also in the general election, the NDC had 15, 369 votes and
the NPP 14, 002. The NPP, however, has retained its win in
the Agona West constituency by winning 23,156 of the votes
cast as against 22, 103 by the NDC, with 491 ballots
rejected. On December 7, the NPP had 23,147 votes and the
NDC 19, 735 ballots cast.
The streets are quiet and deserted as people baricade
themselves at home to follow keenly the results that are
trickling in from all the 230 constituencies in the country.
They are sure that by the end of the day the Electoral
Commission (EC) will come out to ease the tension by calling
the winner.
