International Council for Clergy seeks God's wisdom for
Akufo- Addo
Accra, Jan.6, Ghandot/GNA- The
International Council for Clergy, has cautioned the
flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo
Dankwa Akufo-Addo to seek God's wisdom, strength and
blessings to guide his political campaign for Election 2008.
Members of the council, which is an affiliate of the Council
of Black Clergy; in Philadelphia in the United States, asked
the flagbearer to be mindful of the volatile political
situation in Kenya, which had led to the loss of lives and
property.
This was contained in a press statement signed on behalf of
the Council in Accra on Sunday, by Bishop Isaac Nunoo, the
International Director of the religious body.
The statement was the outcome of a meeting between members
of the council led by the Presiding Archbishop, Rt. Rev.
George Slezer Ofori-Atta and Nana Akufo- Addo.
The members counselled the presidential candidate to be
cautious in his choice of words and strive to reconcile the
country and not inflame passion.
"Be accommodating, endeavour to co-exist peacefully with
intra and inter-party leaders as well as other presidential
candidates acknowledging the fact that there is no enemy in
Ghana.
"Exhibit extraordinary leadership skills for the good of our
beloved nation," the statement said.
The statement reiterated God's injunction in the Bible that
says that, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a
reproach to any people."
Members of the council expressed disappointment that
immorality and other despicable acts were now reigning in
Ghana.
They called on government to re-introduce moral and
religious education in the school syllabus to help reverse
the situation.
Nana Akufo-Addo said issues the council raised were deeply
in his heart and would therefore endeavour with the help of
God to do his best for the sustenance of unity, integration
and development of Ghana.
He said he carried the burden to ensure that the country's
poverty level was drastically reduced.
As a Christian, Nana Akufo- Addo affirmed his faith in the
Lord Jesus Christ.
