Most Rev. George
Kocherry visits Upper West Region
Wa, Aug. 19, GNA - Catholic faithful in Wa on Friday lined
up the streets to welcome the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana,
Most Rev. George Kocherry to Wa, the regional capital.
He was met by motorcycle and bicycle riding crowd and was
welcomed by the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Mr. George
Hikah Benson.
A girl presented him with a calabash of water and another
girl, a bouquet of flowers.
The Nuncio whose visit was blessed with morning rain was
presented with a cross at the entrance of the church. He
kissed it and gave it back.
The Nuncio who would be in the region for five-days, would
tour catholic institutions and meeting with some traditional
rulers and Muslim leaders to interact with them to foster
mutual understanding and trust to promote peaceful
co-existence.
At the church, he was introduced to the congregation by host
Bishop, Most Rev. Paul Bemile, who described the Nuncio as a
true missionary of the Catholic Church who frequently
reached out to the people in the communities to interact
with them, sometimes under difficult conditions.
Most Rev. Bemile urged Catholics to respect the principles
of the church and show their loyalty and also respect other
people with different faith.
The Nuncio on his part, prayed for peace for the people of
Wa, in particular and the region as a whole.
Rev. Father Mathias Mornah, in a scripture reading at a
special mass organised in his honour, urged Catholics not to
despise people, especially the poor.
He said such practice has the tendency of moving people away
from reaching out to Christ.
Father Mornah reminded Catholics that it was not enough to
show regret for sins without pragmatic measures to pursuit
Christian values.
