Akuapems hold durbar to climax Odwira
Akropong-Akuapem (E/R), Oct. 6, Ghanadot - Addressing
a durbar of the chiefs and people at Akropong to climax this
year's Akwapem Odwira festival, the Eastern Regional
Minister Kwadwo Affram-Asiedu, has appealed to Akuapems to
co-exist peacefully and to avoid destructive conflicts that
could be massive drain on national resources.
Mr Affram Asiedu urged them to unite and support their
traditional rulers and other leaders for progress.
He expressed dissatisfaction that only about 28 percent of
the area's population of more than 104,000 had registered
with the Akuapem North District Health Insurance Scheme as
of June this year, and urged the communities to subscribe to
it.
The Okuapehene, Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa III, appealed to
political parties and their supporters to conduct themselves
in a manner that would promote peace and harmony between
them and their opponents in their campaigns leading to next
year's elections.
He also called on the Electoral Commission to continue to
ensure the conduct of credible elections in the country.
Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa called on Akuapems to unite and fight
against poverty, disease, illiteracy and unemployment,
instead of engaging in ethnic conflict.
He expressed appreciation to the government for
reconstructing the Mamfe-Adenta road and urged communities
living along the road to keep it tidy.
He also appealed to the authorities to expedite work on the
Aburi-Nsawam road project.
The Okuapehene appealed to the Eastern Regional Minister for
a bus each for the Presbyterian University College at
Akropong and the Akrofi-Christaller Memorial Institute of
Theology, Mission and Culture to facilitate the smooth
running of the two institutions.
