CPP group opposes "imposition" of chairman
Ho, Oct. 20, Ghanadot/GNA - A group calling itself concerned
members of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) in the Volta
Region on Friday threatened a court action against the
Party's leadership if it went ahead to reinstate Prince
Ahiadzro, who had voluntarily resigned from his position of
regional chairman of the Party.
Mr Ahiadzro, who was elected in August 2003, reportedly
resigned voluntarily in March this year in a letter
addressed to the Party's national and regional executives.
At a press conference in Ho, Mr Christian Zigah, spokesman
of the group held that after resigning voluntarily and
officially, the only means by which Mr Ahiadzro could get
back into the position was through an election at the next
regional delegates' conference.
"No officer, not even the national chairman or organ of the
Party has the power under the Constitution to reinstate or
reappoint Ahiadzro as the Volta Regional Chairman," Mr Zigah
said, adding that any such act would amount to usurping the
Constitutional powers of the delegates.
He said members of the CPP in the region would not allow any
violation of their rights and appealed to committed members
of the Party to prevail upon the national chairman and the
central committee to rescind their decision to "impose" Mr
Ahiadzro on them.
Mr Zigah said his group had no intention to derail renewed
efforts by the Party to win next year's elections, but
should the executives go ahead to impose Mr Ahiadzro on
members, it would have no other option than to take legal
action against that decision.
