 Alan's convoy in an accident

Wenchi (B/A), Nov. 12, Ghanadot/GNA- The driver of the leading vehicle of NPP flagbearer aspirant Alan Kyeremanten's convoy and a woman died on the spot when the vehicle and a cargo truck grazed each other on the Techiman-Wenchi road on Sunday.

The driver has been identified as Ibrahim Musah, 35, and the woman Hajia Abiba, who is the wife of the owner of the truck.

Four persons, including Emmanuel Ameyaw, driver's mate on the truck, who sustained injuries, are on admission at the Holy Family hospital in Techiman.

When newsmen went to the hospital on Monday to ascertain their injuries and other details of the victims, some people led by the Mr Yaw Ntow Ababio, MP for Dormaa East prevented them from doing so amid insults and intimidation.

But reached on telephone, Chief Superintendent Osei Ampofo Duku, Wenchi Police Divisional Commander told the Ghana News Agency that the late Hajia Abiba was on the truck, which was loaded with charcoal.

He said the accident happened around 1430 hours as the vehicle, a Land Cruiser, with registration number GT 4155 V and with four occupants, was leading a convoy of about seven vehicles of Alan's campaign trail.

The police commander said the aspirant's vehicle was ascending a hill in a sharp curve whilst the Renault truck with registration number WR 8144 C and also with four occupants was on its way from Wenchi when the accident occurred at a place called Amen Nkwanta, near Nkonsia, about six kilometers to Wenchi.

The Chief Superintendent said the police suspect one of the vehicles might have strayed into the lane of the other, adding, the impact of the crash was so great that the driver's side of the Land Cruiser was torn away.

Mr Issahaku Abubakari, driver of the truck later told newsmen that he was traveling to Kumasi with 180 bags of charcoal and on reaching the sharp curve he saw the leading vehicle of the convoy overtaking a TICO taxi cab so he parked but the Land Cruiser just crashed into his truck and somersaulted.
