Princesses drawn with Algeria, Senegal
and Cameroon
Accra, April 10, GNA – Ghana’s U-19 female soccer team, the
Black Princesses have been drawn alongside hosts Algeria,
Senegal and Cameroon for this year’s All Africa Games.
The draw, which was conducted by the Confederation of
African Football (CAF) on Monday in Algiers and gathered by
the GNA Sports, pits the Princesses in Group B.
Defending Champions, Nigeria has been paired in Group A with
South Africa, Mozambique and Ethiopia.
The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon are considered the
strongest opposition in Group B considering their pedigree
on the continent.
The Black Princesses and the Super Falcons of Nigeria
automatically qualified for the quadrennial event.
Meanwhile in a related development, Ghana’s Black Meteors
have also been drawn in Group A of the Men’s competition
together with Tunisia and the winners of the South
Africa-Botswana and Cameroon-Gabon matches.
The rest of the teams (quartet) have so far played only
first round matches of the qualifiers with the return legs
slated for this weekend.
South Africa look certain to qualify after they beat
Mozambique 2-0 in the first leg while Cameroon is also
favoured over Gabon despite going down 0-2 in the first leg
encounter in Libreville.
The Meteors qualified to the competition at the expense of
Nigeria on the away goal rule after holding the Nigerians to
a 1-1 goal aggregate.
Ghana won bronze at the last edition in Abuja.
The other Group has hosts Algeria, Egypt, Senegal or Guinea
and Zambia or Mozambique.
