African countries to join Ghana to commemorate
Nkrumah's 100th Birthday

Accra, July 6, Ghanadot - The African Union (AU), at the just ended 13th Ordinary
Summit in the Libyan Coastal City of Sirte, has unanimously
agreed to celebrate the centenary birthday of
the founder and first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr Kwame
Nkrumah, as a continental event.
To this end, a resolution was passed at the13th Ordinary
Summit of the African Union where all the African heads of
state "unanimously agreed to celebrate Dr Nkrumah’s
centenary birthday and put it on the AU’s calendar of
Special Events".
Additionally, the AU summit agreed and passed a unanimous
resolution to celebrate his centenary birthday and put it on
the AU calendar of Special Events.
A Deputy Minister of Information, Mr Samuel
Okudzeto-Ablakwah who was at the Summit disclosed this to
some journalists on his return from Libya, that the leaders
also accepted Ghana’s invitation to join President John
Evans Atta Mills and Ghanaians to celebrate the anniversary
on September 21, 2009.
"At the summit, President Mills invited his colleague heads
of state to join Ghana to mark the centenary of Dr Nkrumah,
whose pioneering role in the formation of the Organisation
of African Unity (OAU) is unmatched" he added.
President Mills, in addressing his peers at the summit,
lauded the role of Dr Nkrumah and recalled how passionate he
was in ensuring that not only Ghana but the African
continent as a whole gained independence.
President Mills also paid glowing tributes to the late First
President for his selfless, dedication and committed to the
cause of Africa which had inspired most African countries to
this far.
Mr. Okudzeto-Ablakwah indicated leader after leader at the
Summit took turns to praise Dr Nkumah’s visionary
leadership, and expressed their willingness to participate
in the celebration.
He disclosed the summit consequently tasked the Executive
Council of Foreign Ministers to draw a programme for the
celebration.

GHC 25million to help deal with the flood situation in some
parts of the country, especially in the Accra Metropolis. .
Accra, July 6, Ghanadot - The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR)
has shutdown again. According to the Chief Executive Officer
of TOR, Dr Kwame Ampofo, the shutdown became necessary at
the insistence of its engineers to enable them carry out
full maintenance works to ensure that the refinery operates
at full capacity.
