I will return Ga lands- sector Minister

Accra, Feb 25, Ghanadot - In his quest to fulfill his party's campaign promise made to the people of Ga, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Collins Dauda has pledged his commitment to return all Ga lands to the rightful owners.

Alhaji Collins Dauda said this when he met heads and officials of the land sector agencies including, the Land Commission, Land Title Registry and Land Valuation Board yesterday.

To execute this programme effectively, the he directed the Lands Commission and Lands Administration Project, (LAP) to obtain inventories of the acquisition of lands within three months so as to start the process of handing over lands that were not being used by the government.

At the meeting, the Minister for lands and Natural Resources said, if the land acquired for a particular purpose could not be used, his administration was prepared to release all the unused lands to their rightful owners.

He however pleaded with the land owners to seek them out so that the lands could be distributed in an equitable manner.

Alhaji Collins Dauda, former MP for Asutifi North constituency and currently engaged in a legal tussle over the parliamentary results from the area also touched on smooth acquisition of lands for residential purpose.

"There had been multiplicity of land ownership especially in the Greater Accra Region, leading to several unpaid compensation as well as customary land management challenges", he observed.

He however promised to improve land administration in the country, saying, he would take a second look at the portion of the 1992 constitution which dealt with lands issue.

The Minister also called on his working staff to sincerely criticize his work so that he could be on track.

"I prefer to to be criticized rather than flattered. Let us team up and work hard to deliver. It is for this reason that I urged you to support me in my job". he told his working staff.

Speaking on behalf of the land agencies, Alhaji Ibrahim Baryeh, Executive Secretary, Lands commission, promised their unflinching support to the Minister's quest to improve on the land situation in the country.
