Accra, July 22, Ghanadot - The
Libyan President and Chairman of the African Union, Colonel
Muammar al-Gaddafi has recently been
in the news for his desire to be crowned as the 'king of
kings' in Ghana by chiefs in the sub-region.
Though the said conference has been
canceled, many Ghanaians have not relented
in their attack on the Libyan President whom
they described as president but not king.
The National House of Chiefs has however denied the
allegation that the aborted international conference of
chiefs was to mark the coronation of the Libyan leader,
Colonel Muammar Gaddafi as "King of Kings".
Addressing a press conference in Accra, the President of the
House of Chiefs Naa Professor John Nabilla said, the overall
aim of the conference was to mobilise the chiefs and kings
of Africa as genuine partners of development towards
building a stronger Africa to overcome poverty and ignorance
and break from the state of underdevelopment.
He revealed that the King of Kings title had already been
conferred on the Libyan leader at Benghazi, Libya in August
2008 and it was to show an appreciation of his efforts of
bringing traditional rulers on
board the continental union project.
"Had the conference come on there was no way we would crown
the Libyan leader as 'King of Kings' because we had already
conferred that on him", he added.
When asked why the conference scheduled to take place on
July 24 in Accra was postponed indefinitely, Naa Billa
responded that it was due to a "technical Hitch".
He however gave no date of when the conference will come on.
