PNC confused about party to support

Accra, Dec 18, Ghanadot - The People’s National Convention
(PNC) and its National Executive Committee met on Tuesday
but could not decide whether to support the New Patriotic
Party (NPP) or the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
At the end of the meeting the party
leadership, including the leader, decided on not choosing
sides.
The party leadership, however, left it to
its regional executives to make their own decisions about
which party to support.
The regional executives conceded that the party has been
approached by the two parties, but they are taking this
decision not as PNC itself but as one emanating from
branches of the party.
Meanwhile PNC Members of Parliament (MPs) have officially
declared their support for NPP’s presidential candidate,
Nana Akuffo Addo ahead of the presidential run-off on
December 28.
According to Moses DanI-Baah, MP for Sissala East, he saw the
aftermath of the eviction and the overthrow of Dr. Hilla Leman’s government
by the PNDC. He added that the NPP since coming to
power has shown an overwhelming concern for human rights.
He also trusted that Nana Akuffo Addo would do a good
job when voted into power.
He acknowledged the challenges confronting the
NPP party and
said it can really do some great work to help the
nation should they be given the nod to govern.
The Greater Accra branch
of the PNC has, however, decided to go with the NDC.
According to them, since the opposition NDC bears the
resemblance of the party and since they believe in the
pressing needs of the people, they believe the NDC has the
same message thus their reason to join the party.
Though the PNC backed the NPP in the 2000 general elections,
the Accra branch says their party has nothing to show for
the support and that has made most of the regional
executives bitter.
“We joined them in 2000 and the same manner you come back
and say oh, I want to give you this number of positions, so
give me people who will be capable of handling that
position. This is what they should have done, but not by
going behind us to stab us at the back”. Mr. Halm-Quatey
said.
