NCCE urges EC to declare result

Accra, Dec. 30, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Tuesday urged the Electoral Commission to “look up to God and fearlessly declare the result of the runoff presidential match that was played on 28th December very urgently and soonest”.

In a statement issued after an emergency meeting, the Commission pleaded with the contestants “in this match to dig deep into the crevices of their craniums, examine the results and graciously concede defeat and quickly congratulate the winner”.

The NCCE noted in the statement signed by the Chairman, Mr Laary Bimi that Ghana had come a long way since 1992.

“We have developed our nascent democracy to a stage where we cannot and should not allow it to slip back to confirm the belief that Africans cannot be democrats.

“We must not shed a drop of blood for personal aggrandisement of temporary political power.”

NCCE said it held the view that a house or a nation that had no elders was doomed.

“Ghana has elders. We are, therefore, not doomed. Our elders, the religious clergy of all faiths, the chiefs, the organised workers and farmers, the women’s groups should rise up to stem the evil wind that is blowing towards Ghana,” it said.

“Let us with one resolve stop this evil and save Ghana for ourselves, our children and for posterity,” NCCE said.
