NPP to succeed itself - Nana Addo
Tamale, Jan. 9, Ghanadot/GNA - Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,
presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has
declared that the party would make history in the annals of
Ghanaian politics on January 7 next year "when it hands over
power to itself".
He said the party's last national delegates' congress to
elect a flag bearer was the strongest and most fearful in
its history and as such, people thought there would be a
split after the congress.
Nana Akufo-Addo was addressing party executives, delegates
and supporters in Tamale on Tuesday as part of his
nation-wide tour to thank the delegates and supporters of
the party for electing him as the NPP's presidential
candidate.
Mr. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Mr. Dan Bowte and Mr. Jake
Obetsebi-Lamptey, defeated aspirants, and Hajia Alima Mahama,
the Minister of Women and Children's Affairs, accompanied
him.
Nana Akufo-Addo said those who speculated that the party
would break up had been put to shame because all the
divisions in the party after the congress no longer existed
and they were more united than ever.
He said warm receptions he had received in Sunyani and Wa
were signals that come December this year he would win the
elections to become the next President of Ghana.
The NPP flag bearer called for cooperation between the party
and the government.
Nana Akufo-Addo reminded the party's supporters that the
voter's register would be opened in March and urged all
eligible members of the party to go out in their numbers and
register.
Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister,
called for unity in the party and urged the party's foot
soldiers to step up their efforts at wooing more people into
the party.
The former presidential aspirants emphasised the need for
unity and pooling of resources to enable the party win the
election.
Nana Akufo-Addo had earlier called on the acting Chief Imam
of the Tamale Central Mosque, Alhaji Abudul Salam Abubakari.
