LOC appeals to corporate bodies to support ticket sales
Accra, Sept. 12, Ghanadot/GNA - Magnus Rex Danquah, Chief
Operating Officer of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of
the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations has appealed to
corporate bodies to support ticket sales during next year's
event.
This will ensure that all four stadia are filled to capacity
during the January 20 - February 10, 2008 Championships.
Mr Danquah told the GNA Sports that it was necessary that
corporate institutions support the LOC's quest of having
packed stadiums during the 26th edition of the continent's
showpiece soccer event by providing tickets for the
disadvantaged in society.
He explained that since it is not all football fans who can
afford tickets for the month-long fiesta, it behoves on
corporate bodies to ensure such persons become part of the
competition by supporting them with the purchase of tickets.
The LOC is expected to meet some institutions within the
corporate world to fashion out modalities to that regard.
Mr Danquah also advised fans who will have the opportunity
to visit any of the four stadia to take good care of the
facilities at the venues.
"Government has spent a lot of money on these projects and
we have to take good care of them."
Two new Stadia have been built in Sekondi and Tamale while
the Ohene Djan and Baba Yara Sports Stadia in Accra and
Kumasi have been completely renovated for the event, which
Ghana is hosting for the first time since 1978.
The draw for the competition has been fixed for October 19,
at the Accra International Conference Centre with the
opening ceremony slated for January 20, 2008.
